Road closures on Sunday 15 September 2024 | Moore Park Precinct

Moore Park Precinct: Road/cycleway closures and special event clearways on Sunday 15 September 2024

The Sydney Marathon will be held on Sunday 15 September with major roads & cycleways closed between 3:30am and 3pm in the Sydney CBD, The Rocks, Millers Point, North Sydney, Barangaroo, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Moore Park, Centennial Park, Kensington, and Kingsford.

The following information has been taken from the official Sydney Marathon communications to ensure you are clear on the limited access you will have to our venue on the day the marathon takes place.

This year, due to course changes, road closures will be more significant and vehicle movements around the course will be limited for the majority of the day. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel on event day as extensive road closures will be in place with significant detours that will lead to longer travel times.

For the safety of runners and spectators, there will be significant road closures associated with the TCS Sydney Marathon between 3:30am and 3pm.

See below detailed information on local access arrangements in each area, including maps. All efforts have been made to maintain vehicle access for residents where possible.

We strongly advise that you take the following steps to help minimise the impact of these significant road closures:

  • Avoid non-essential travel where possible – Leave your car at home and DON’T DRIVE in areas along or surrounding the course. Significant delays are expected with major detours in place.
  • Plan your trip – be aware of road closure times & locations, and if you must drive on event day plan your route in advance and allow for extra trave time.
    • For those needing to drive, the Cross City Tunnel will be free from 5am to 3pm only on event day, Sunday 15 September.
  • Use public transport – trains and metro services will continue to run to and from the city, with additional early morning services. Keep in mind that due to road closures buses and light rail services will be affected, so plan your trip ahead of time.
  • Taxi/rideshare drop off locations

Resident Parking / Special Event Clearways

    • Check signage – If you need to access your vehicle during the event, park in a legal space outside of the closure footprint. Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect across the course, avoid being towed and move your vehicle on Saturday night as many clearways come into effect midnight leading into Sunday.
    • The event will reimburse displaced parking if conditions of the parking reimbursement form are met.
  • Parking options coming soon
