Meet Skye Choueiri - International Women's Day 2022
To celebrate International Women’s Day at Moore Park Golf, we sat down with female PGA Pro Skye Choueiri to ask chat about her passion for the great game.
Skye began her golfing journey at 11 years of age and it has been a pivotal part of her live ever since. Over the past few years, Skye has been an integral member of PGA Pros helping to grow the game at Moore Park Golf.
Below, Skye shares how she got into golf and what she loves about Moore Park Golf. If you’d like to learn more about Skye, or book in a lesson, find out more through the Sydney Golf Academy.
How did you first get into golf?
Golf is a game that has always been in my family – my Dad was a greenkeeper and as a child, I would hold the flag for him while he changed the pin positions early in the morning. My Grandpa, Mum, Aunties and Uncles were all members at Hawks Nest and played on a regular basis so it was inevitable golf would be a part of my life . I was 10 years old when I asked to join a junior program – I made some great friends, fell in love with the game of golf and here we are 24 years later!
Why do you love working at Moore Park Golf?
The atmosphere, the people, my students, the team! I enjoy turning up to teach each day at Sydney’s best public golf facility – Moore Park is inclusive, welcoming and progressive and I’m honoured to play a part in that.
What do you love about teaching female lessons at Moore Park Golf?
My vision is to change the narrative around women entering the world of Golf. Golf can be an intimidating sport to navigate – I want to break down barriers and create a safe, friendly and inclusive space for women of all ages to access, learn and play the game of golf.
I am passionate about getting more women on the greens, providing quality instruction for women, and supporting women through their golfing journey. I love bringing ladies together to enjoy the game and its many social benefits but most importantly, making the game fun.
Why would you recommend females play and participate in golf?
There are many benefits and reasons as to why women should play golf! Golf encourages you to keep active, reduces stress and is a great way to meet new friends. Golf is also a great way to network! Many women I have taught over the years have felt disadvantaged in the corporate world as they didn’t golf and were missing out on valuable networking opportunities. There is a simple solution to that: take up golf!
What hobbies do you have?
I love travelling, snowboarding, being outdoors, and spending time with my family. I’m looking forward to a time when we can do these things again post Covid!
