Meet Andy - Head Chef
The team behind Moore Park Golf are an integral part of what makes this the best public golf course in Sydney.
We’re excited to bring you our “Meet the Team” series which will introduce you to key members of the Moore Park Golf team.
First up, we’d like to introduce you to our head chef, Andy.
You might not see Andy around the course all too often as he spends the majority of his time in the kitchen. But if you’ve tried one of his delicious menu items, you’ll know just how important he is!
We recently sat down with Andy to talk about his passion for cooking, his favourite dishes and what he loves about working at Moore Park.
Check out the Q&A below.
How long have you worked at MPG? 4 Years
What do you love about working at MPG? The fact that it’s always different. No two days are the same. It’s always full of surprises. The excitement, the rush, the stress of it all.
Where did you first learn to cook? Growing up in Austria, I started working in hospitality when I was 10 years old during school holidays. It started during Christmas holidays back home (in Austria), I started in the kitchen washing up at the local swimming pool. After that, I was there every school holidays until I got a job in the hotel that was attached to the pool. From there, I started my apprenticeship and I’ve never looked back.
What sort of music do you like to listen to in the kitchen? I used to have music playing in the kitchen all the time, especially if I was prepping a new menu or pulling a late night. Eminem was always my go to and if I got carried away Metallica would come out. Depending on the menu or event, I’d sometimes switch to Beethoven or Mozart.
Do you have a favourite event that you’ve worked at here? Any event that we host for the members is always great. I get to be my most creative during with the menu during these events and I love it! Any special occasion that’s happening at the course is always great, too!
Favourite thing to cook at home? I like to keep it super simply and go for a toast cheese sandwich in the waffle maker or play around with pasta sauces. It depends on what’s in my pantry!
How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at work? My daughter and my grandchildren are the most important things in the world to me. I love spending as much time with them as I possibly can.
